3 means that he can blow in a sizeable
, modernist band like Winds Of
| Manhattan and play blues inflected sax
in the 30s‘ swing Savoy Sultans. Still in
his early thirties, and one at the most
gifted alto saxophonists, he is no
V stranger to Platform‘s Scottish
concerts. His 29th Street Saxophone Quartet's first British gig caused quite a
stir in Edinburgh and beyond. Like
Charlie Parker he was born in Kansas
and found his voice, indeed various
Dick Lee and Steve Kettley.

He worked hard at sitting in, and with his degree in composition from the University of Miami it wasn’t long before Art Blakey‘s eye tell on him and incorporated him into the Jazz Messengers. Watson eventually took overas their musical director. His playing is marked by a passionate inventiveness and avoidance of cool and with his New York Quartet he plays Glasgow on 8 Oct and Edinburgh the following day.
