Georges Rousse1983—1987 Until Sat 10 Oct. This French artist photographs interiors large and in colour. His drawing of the places puts him in the same catagory in which Ron O‘Donnell and Calum Colvin fall — between photography and painting/sculpture. Born in Paris in 1947, Rousse has exhibited internationally recently in Amsterdam and New York. Jointly
Collins Gallery, Glasgow For the second year running, the Collins has put two young trainee exhibition organisers through their paces with the help of an EEC grant. This month, Ruth Charity and Mark Murray sum up their stay in an exhibition, the concept, organisation and mounting oi which they have handled to professional effect themselves.
Both exhibitions, though on a small scale, pack as many features and skills of exhibition-making in as possible, which seems on this occasion, the most important aspect of the exercise. Ruth looked for contemporary art which had been created out of family matters. The resulting exhibition ‘Ties That Bind’ brings Glasgow photographer Vaughan Judge, West indian/English painter Sonia Boyce, sought-after photographer and set-designer David Buckland and eight others together on the walls and in words.

life. Gloria Chalmers in a set of three photographs, looks at the formidable power of the male/female relationship and stereotype within the family. Two artists, both phographers, mix-and-match family faces into intriguing combinations. Here is a taste of some of the medicine we all take.
Mark investigates a very different world. He has mounted the first exhibition about Glaswegian, John Grierson, founding father of the documentary. Stills of course, and text tell the story of the man and a couple of vintage cine cameras add a flavour of the times. Fourfilms will be shown regularly throughout the exhibition, including ‘Night Mail’, a classic of its genre, with poetry by Auden and music by Britten. Films will also be shown at the GFT. Unfortunately, EEC funding for this training project is not available for next year as regulations have been changed, but Tessa Jackson, curator, hopes the gallery can meet the new requirements in the future. (Alice Baln)
