Exhibition Last week four floors of studios and an exhibition by the artists working in them. were officially opened. In the last 18 months. 35 artists have been working in the Old Bakery building. The range ofwork is wide - from Phil Braham‘s silvery oils to designer dressmaking (lots ofwedding photos) by Caroline Scott.

The Living Paintings Fri 26—Sun 28 June. They hung in Wolverhampton Art Gallery in May 1986 and attracted 12.000 people. breaking gallery records. Under the auspices of artist Stephen Taylor-Woodrow they are back again to hang on a few Scottish walls. Four men perform this unusual idea. taking the place of paintings. This will be the last opportunity to see them as the piece is ‘going into early retirement.‘ Catch them on this final tour at Artspace. Aberdeen. 2—4 July. An Lanntair. Stornoway. Smith Biennial Exhibition 1987 The Smith have announced the closing date for entries for their biennial competition show. Artists are asked to have entry forms returned by 5 August. The selected work will be shown from 17 Sept to 18 Oct. Work in any medium will be accepted. Entry forms are available from the above address. £6000 in prize money is being offered this year. making this the biggest competition ofits kind in Scotland. 1985's winner of the first prize. Ian McCulloch. has had four one-man shows since. Knitting —A Common Art Until Sun 19 July. A review ofthis vastly popular hobby and sometimes art over 400 years of British interest. The earliest item is a hand-knitted Tudor cap of 1590. There are examples ofFair Isle and Shetland and work by famous names like Sandy Black. Sasha Kagan and Zandra Rhodes. One of only two showings in Scotland.
