The Crows are an ambitious. hard- working rock band from Edinburgh. sounding reminiscent at times of Psychedelic Furs and Bowie. Two acclaimed singles already released. and a soundtrack for Channel 4 film The Love You Run under their belts. Major record company interest. Possible appearance by We Free Kings still to be confirmed. 0 Rock Against Racism Concert Kelvingrove Park. 6.30pm. Free. Four and a half hours of rocking against racism with The Force topping the bill. The Unin Express. Bombay Talkie. Red for Go and New Religion are the supporting bands. The event is organised by Strathclyde Multi Racial Action Year (SM RAY) and Glasgow District Council. 0 The Shamen. Deal Heights Cajun Aces and Shop Assistants Glasgow College of'l‘echnology. Cowcaddens Road. 9pm—7am. Late bar till 4am. £5.50. Students and guests only. Phew! That sort of temptation could leave even the hardest rock writer a bit tipsy. And what better company to get tipsy in? The slimmed-down Shoppies. with vocal chores now being handled by bassist Sarah. work best as a ramalama outfit these days. and are still worth seeing. Deaf Heights continue to make irresistibly danceable omelettes ofcajun. creole and zydeco. and by the time Aberdeen‘s brilliant shamen come on. everyone should be bevvied enough to profoundly appreciate their poppy modern psychedelia.

Sonny Curtis was in Buddy Holly‘s first recording band The Three Tunes. and later joined The Crickets. Far from growing into a clapped-out old hack. Sonny's talents are still sought after by the best studios. Great all-round musican. modern rock fans will probably know him best as the writer ofthe Clash hit I Fought The Law.
