So he has splashed ott with a goodly slice of all that comes under the ‘tolk’ tag. The McCalmans' new album Peace And Plenty is doing very well and the three vocalists are just back from their lirst ever tour at Ireland in a score at years. One night they sang

but will play in Glasgow. The other singer-songwriter on the table is lain MacDonald. Dick Gaughan produced the album and regards him as the best new singer to emerge in many years. The album has been making waves in the talk world as has the man who tor years has been quietly maturing up north in a peaty glen. Tickets tor the Edinburgh concert from the Ticket Centre, Waverley Bridge or Virgin. Back over in Glasgow, those two happy laces (see photo) belong to Marcy Marxer; guitar, mandolin, hammered dulcimer, and Cathy Fink; vocalist and champion banjo player. In the States Marcy once belonged to an all-women string band aptly called The Bosom Buddies and she is a long term

associate at his Fink, having played on most at her six albums. The latest is The Leading Role, dedicated to women in country music. In concert together (2 Apr) they present a collage ot songs and accomplished intstrumental sets in American traditional, country and contemporary acoustic styles. They locus, but not obsessively, on songs at women, children and work, and the Glasgow concert is the only one in Scotland. (Norman Chalmers)
