Halkett's poweriul porttolio torms part oi a touring exhibition which will visit Scottish Sports Centres during the year (see Arts).

Other awards presented in a ceremony at the Glasgow Film Theatre included the runner-up prize tor The Scotsman’s Hamish Campbell, with a commendation Ior James Galloway oi the Glasgow Herald. Duncan McEwan

PRIZE FIGHT

oI Bridge at Weir took the amateur prize, with Valerie Brown lifting the runner-up award, while Herald photographer Edward Jones won the Best Sport For All Picture Award (a campaign run under the auspices oi the Sports Council, who organise this competition with sponsorship Irom DP), with his line Veteran Sprinters.

All the award-winning pictures are included in the exhibition, testament once again to the outstanding photogenic possibility sport otters, the skills at the photographers who capture it and, perhaps above all, the physical and emotional commitment at those (oi all ages) who play It, and whose ettorts turnish these splendid, memorable Images. An Egyptian horse in its 2000+ year is one of the very special toys on display in this exhibition of old-fashioned toys. Closer to home there is a dolls‘ house made for a little girl in Glasgow in 1916, complete with a tiny candlestick for lighting the way to bed. There are competitions and quizzes, with prizes, related to the exhibition.

Young Museum gives children a chance to take part in the museum‘s many activities outwith school. It includes workshops, film programmes and competitions on Sat mornings and at other times during school holidays. All the events are open to children aged 8—12 years and admission is free. Workshops are very popular however, and numbers are limited so do book in advance (forms from Information Desk). The workshops listed below are the last in the current series which looks at festivals from all over the world. A new programme of trips will start some time after 16 April when this series ends.
