FRIDAY 5
Glasgow
0 The Cult Barrowland, London Road. 7.30pm. £6. Seem to have quite a big following these days, but ‘Love Removal Machine‘ must be the worst single since ‘Agadoo’. Come back Wayne Hussey— all is forgiven; until your next record, at least.
0 Edwin Starr Fury Murrys, Maxwell Street. 10.30pm. Special pa with Edwin singing along to a backing tape. Still worth a look, even ifonly for nostalgia purposes.
0 The Straight Men Riverside Tavern, Gorbals. 8pm. Free. Residency by popular pub band.
0 Blues ’n' Trouble Glasgow College ofTechnology. 10.30pm. Despite the fact that they are universally admired, I fail to see anything new or exciting about Blues ‘n’ Trouble, which is a shame, as they are possibly the hardest working band in Britain.
Edinburgh
0 Deep Purple Playhouse Theatre, Greenside Place, 557 2590. 7.30pm. £8.50, £7.50. Legendary ’eavy band featuring legendary ‘eavy guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, who inspired countless HM fans to pick up an axe and learn their licks. Persuaded to reform by the sort of fee one doesn’t turn down every day. Guaranteed eardrum~pummeller.
O The Crows The Venue, Calton Road, 557 3073. 9pm. Local band, owing much to the early 705 as well as the Psychedelic Furs influences that permeated their first single. See review.
0 We Free Kings Queen Margaret College, Clerwood Terrace, 339 8111. £1. Students and guests only. Edinburgh’s fine thrashy punk folkies. Well worth seeing. See review.
0 A Girl Called Johnny Moray House Student Union, Holyrood Road, 556 8455. Students and guests only (Students £1.50, guests £2). 9pm. Slick commercial pop from the group once known as Doppelganger, and now with a single out on Virgin’s 10 Records.
0 World Party Hoochie Coochie Club. West Tollcross, 228 3252. Made their excellent TV debut with current single Ship Of Fools a few weeks ago. Perhaps a bit laid back and unexciting visually for some tastes, but I know where I'll be tonight.
0 Shokk The Amphitheatre, Lothian Road. 10pm. £1.75 before 11pm, £3.50 after. Personal appearance from pop artistes who made the charts with Dynamo Beat a few years back.

0 Magnum/Heavy Petting Barrowland, London Road. 7.30pm. £5. Even the combination ofArchie McPherson and Andy Cameron is more appealing than this. Stay at home.
0 Kevin McDennott Halt Bar, Woodlands Road. 8.30pm. Free. From The Tube to the Halt Bar in four weeks. Just a solos acoustic gig, which will be a good opportunity to sample Kevin’s strong songs, which still seem to be creating a fair response in London.

0 Davie Scott’s Hearts and Minds Lucifers. Jamaica Street. 10pm. Another highly rated band, featuring the capable songwriting and performance ofonc time Chewey Racoon man Scott. Don‘t let his past stop you seeing this one though.
0 Exit the Lemming Windy's, Paisley. 8.30pm. Free. Already well ahead in the worst name of 1987 stakes, I can only hope that the music is better.

0 China Crisis Queen’s Hall, Clerk Street, 668 3456. £5. Rescheduled from 10 Feb, tickets still valid. First sprang to our attention with the pleasant and laid-back African And White.
