Ken Matheson, well known jazz drummer and Milnagive club organiser, has been appointed General Manager at the Glasgow International Jazz Festival, 26 June-5 July, and Bobby Wishart, virtuoso saxophonist and music teacher, has accepted the post of Musical Director at the saan-ta-be-lormed Glasgow Youth Orchestra which will be launched during the iestival. Auditions lor the forty places are to be held in Allan Glen's School, Cathedral Street on Sundays 22 Feb and 1 March (ages 14—18 and up to 21). The greatest jazz orchestra in the world at the moment, the uniortunately named Danish Radio Big Band, makes it to Scotland for the lirst time - Edinburgh, 20 Feb and Glasgow 22 Feb. The level 01 individual musicianship is incredibly high and the repertoire has been enriched overthe twenty-add years at the band’s existence by conductors and arrangers at the lirst order, like Stan Kenton, George Russell, Thad Jones and Bob Brookmeyer.
