Tommy Reid sings and hollers with Bill Fanning’s Big Band while George Penman’s Jazzmen blow and stomp and superb guitarist Martin Taylor teams with the remarkable talent at Dave Newton on piano. Over in Edinburgh (13 Feb) Jim Galloway returnsto join up again with Mike Hart's Society Syncopators. The classy soprano saxophone player in the Swing idiom, his career is really taking oit after years of apprenticeship in local bands in his native Scotland and in Canada.

Earlier this year Glasgow audiences
greatly enjoyed the new look Humphrey
Lyttleton Band. He brings it north again on 6 Feb. Coming back home to Edinburgh with him as resident pianist will be blues and boogie specialist Stan Greig and the band has discarded most oi its tired repertoire, a concert set now covering most oi the style at jazz. With the respected pair of Bruce Turner and John Barnes on saxophones and clarinet, the line-up is complete by Pete Strange, trombone; Paul Bridge, bass; and Adrian McIntosh, drums. ‘Humph’, the Great Communicator oi British Jazz, rates it as his most versatile band ever.
