Wednesday 22
0 Celtic v Dynamo Kiev Celtic Park. Glasgow. 7.30pm. There are lots of
jokes you could make about this one:.
Dynamo will be no chickens. they‘ll burn Celtic off the park etc. etc. Suffice to say this‘ll be a goodie. It‘ll be a long. long time until Celtic win the European (.‘up again but that doesn‘t stop me wishing them all the best as long as their luck lasts.
THURSDAY 23
0 Rangers v Boavista lbrox Park. Glasgow. If Souness does have a talent — and that‘s debatable — then it is in European ties where his steadying influence will be needed against this Portugese side who are no slouches.

0 Motherwell v Hamilton Fir Park. Motherwell (All buses pass 200 yards

very interesting one — but a derby nonetheless.

FIRM FAVOURITES
lootball that Rangers/Celtic Cup Finals are impossible to predict, but that doesn‘t stop the media pundits from trying. For myself, I would go along
with the theory thatthis will probably be the tightest such fixture in years.
it is one of the oldest adaes of Scottish 5
Rangers, one player away from a championship winning side (sic), only seem to perform when Souness is playing— probably because they miss his steadying influence as much as his skill. the loss of Dave McPherson through suspension will hit Rangers hard as he and Butcher are on the point of creating a pretty decent delensive partnership and his absence may well open gaps Johnstone and McClair can exploit.
In the Celtic camp there is the feeling they might be glad of a decent defensive partnership to be disrupted. Roy Aitken performs manfully but it is a pretty sad state of affairs when a midfield player ofTommy Burns’ quality is pushed into playing full back while Celtic currently have at least four
centre forwards on their books. If only
Neale Cooper could have been brought to Celtic Park— as it is, Celtic probably are one player short of a championship winning side. But, if Celtic's twin strikers can exploit Rangers’ misfortune, the danling it eccentric
duo of McMinn and Cooper are more
than capable at doing the same to Celtic. As they say. . . unpredictable. Tickets priced £4 for ground and £8
4 for the stand, on sale from Scottish
Football League Offices, West Regent
Street, Glasgow, from Thurs 16 Oct. NB 3 no postal applications accepted. 3 (Graham Caldwell)
