Chesterton Lalonde All Star Jan brings quality jazz to Glasgow over the next month, as hors d’oeuvres to next year's Glasgow Jazz Festival. October’s concerts are held in the Moir Hall, Mitchell Theatre and commence with the sensational and wacky Loose Tubes, Glasgow 2 Oct, Edinburgh 3 Oct.
Jim Mullen returns home to Glasgow (9 Oct) and Edinburgh (10 Oct) with his new band oi vocals, keyboard, bass, drums and Tim Whitebread’s tenor sax. One oi Britain’s best guitarists, he is moving away lrom the Latin ian/tunk oi Morlssey/Mullen and admits to a more contemporary approach.
Fourteen Karat Soul (photo), Glasgow 13 Oct. are live amazing voices trom New Jersey who lay on
Gospel, Rhythm and Blues, Rock and 000 Wop — and all a cappetla. Dublin and Edinburgh’s Melanie O'Rellly, with the Francis Cowan Oulntet, will supply a vocal contrast in an evening devoted to jazz singing. Art Farmer (photo) appears with the Brian Keddle Oulntet, Glasgow 16 Oct, Edinburgh 17 Oct. He is one oi the world’s greatest trumpet players and a virtuoso oi the tlugelhorn. His early sixties ‘Jazztet’ was one oi the moving iorces oi the period and some of the numbers irom those days will be on the agenda whe Art happily meets up again with trombonist Keddle and the top class band oi Gordon Cruikshank on tenor sax, Dave Newton on piano, Kenny Ellis on bass and Mike Travis on drums.
