Saturday 20
FINE FARE LEAGUE
All matches are at 3pm unless otherwise stated.
PREMIER DIVISION
0 Celtic v Hibernian Celtic Park. Glasgow. (Buses 61 . 62. 64). This far into the season and Celtic have already shown that it will take a very good team indeed to topple them. Unfortunately the Easter Road side are not such a team.
0 Clydebank v Aberdeen Kilbowie. Clydebank. (5 mins walk from Singer railway station). This is the type of match Aberdeen kept losing last season and which lost them the championship. So far they seem to be faring better this season and should fare better still when Jim Bett wakes up.
0 Hamilton v Dundee United Douglas Park. Hamilton. (Ground is 15 mins from Hamilton bus station where all buses stop). Hamilton won't look forward to this one. Not only are they heading for a severe beating but United have a fairly niggardly travelling support so Hamilton won’t even have the comfort ofinflated gate receipts. Tough luck. lads.
0 Hearts v Motherwell Tynecastle, Edinburgh. (Buses 1.2, 3, 4. 33. 34, 35. 44). Last season you wouldn’t have given a snowball for Motherwell’s chances, but Hearts haven‘t set the heather alight this season. Even so a home win is on the cards.
0 St Mirren v Falkirk Love Street. Paisley (Love Street is a short walk from Gilmour Street station). Even McGarvey says St Mirren are lacking in ambition. clueless. etc. A man who left Liverpool should certainly know.
DIVISION 1
. O Airdrie V Forlar Broomfield, Airdrie. (Ground short walk from
Airdrie station).
' o Clyde v Dumbarton Firhill, Glasgow. (Buses 1, 8, 21 , 57. 60, 61, 89. 90.

Much of Glasgow will once again come to a halt on the morning of Sun 21 Sept lor the filth Glasgow Marathon. Sponsored this year by Citylink Coaches, the Glasgow Marathon has established itself as one of the world’s biggest since 1982 with the number 01 competitors having tripled since then. The number of entries this year is over 11,000 which, it not quite up to last year’s record level still makes it the biggest in Britain alter London. Around a third of the runners are taking part in their first attempt at the 26 mile course. The Marathon starts from Glasgow Green at around 9.30am and among the amateur and ion runners there are many serious athletes from countries like Denmark, Yugoslavia, West Germany and Poland. From Glasgow Green the Marathon route goes up the High Street and then along George Street past the City Chambers. 11 proceeds then along Sauchlehall Street. up Kelvin Way and along Great Western Road to Anniesland, through Scotstoun and along the Clydeside

Grahamstown station). Just a short jaunt for the Celtic support knowing that they are just one signing away from being a desperately good team and 45 mins away from another 2 pts — ifScotRail run to time.
o Hibs v Dundee United Easter Road. Edinburgh. (Buses4. 15. 42. 44). [fit wasn‘t for the Ibrox fixture this would be the match of the day. On further consideration it‘s entirely possible that taken from a footballing point ofview rather than a blood and guts one, it will be match ofthe day.
0 Motherwell v Clydebank Fir Park, Motherwell. (Most buses through town centre pass 200 yards from ground). Not at all indicative ofthe Premier League — a good open game between two evenly-matched sides. 0 Rangers vaerdeen Ibrox. Glasgow. (2 mins from Ibrox Underground station and buses 4. 9. 17, 25. 28. 52, 54. 65. 89, 90).
This is invariably a
fascinating. exciting and
taking second place to ‘commitment‘. Well worth the admission fee!
0 St Mirren v Hamilton Love Street. Paisley. (See above). Suddenly this all seems so unexciting — seriously though, there’s not much between these sides on current form and it‘s one worth noting for your treble chance).
Expressway. The course then carries on past the SECC belore crossing the river at the George V Bridge, up Paisley Road West and through Bellahouston Park. Then Corkerhill Road, Damshot Road, Barrhead Road, Pollok Country Park, Fleurs Avenue, Maxwell Drive, St Andrew’s Road, Shields Road and Custom House Ouay before the linal stretch in Glasgow Green.
The route is usually lined with thousands of spectators, but lor those who do not live near the route or would simply rather stay at home, BBC Scotland will be providing periodic live coverage. Two years ago the Beeb won the city's Loving Cup for its quite excellent coverage of the race and lollowed this up last year by virtually ignoring it, alter heavy expenditure at a snooker tournament, which led to a great deal of criticism. This yearthere will be regular bulletins, it not comprehensive coverage at: 9.15—9.453m;10.30—10.35am; 11.05—11.103m; 11.40am—12.10pm and 12.25-12.35pm.
