A major gig to raise money for Artists Against Apartheid is taking place In Glasgow Barrowlands on Fri 5 and Sat 6 September. The benefit has been organised by Lloyd Cole and the Commotions’ manager, Kerek Mackillop, and came about as a direct result ol the Commotions having to pull out of an Artists Against Apartheid benefit in Manchester earlier this year, due to recording commitments.
The Big Dish are performing on the back oi their new single ‘Slide’ on Virgin, and are to release their debut album ‘The Swimmer' at the end of this month.

they could actually annihilate large sections of their audience tonight. Support Zodiac have been lumbered with a ‘Next Big Thing” tag, questionably deserved. Same area as Motorhead but with more colourful attire and sexual bragging. Not as fast either.

is . . .’ on Memory, which hasn’t managed to dent the Top 100. They are, however, an excellent live act, and James Grant’s exaggerated stage presence should provide a sharp contrast to the quiet candour oi Lloyd Cole.
Lloyd Cole and the Commotions are possibly Scotland's best band, and should have some new material on display. But you knew that anyway, didn’t you?
The identity at the ‘Secret Special Guest Star’ is unconilrrned, but it's very likely to be Billy Bragg, which should keep the ldeologlcally sound amongst us happy. At only £5, is there really anywhere else you‘d rather be? (Stuart
