In the 21st century hot-shot pilot Duaid crash-lands on a desolate planet inhabited by deadly carnivores and bombarded by meteor storms. There he encounters his avowed enemy the Drac. However, in the lace of mutual danger, the two creatures are lorced to co-exist. A trucluent friendship grows as they begin to depend on each other for
companionship and sustenance.
A big-budget, space-age plea lor racial tolerance combining elements ol John Boorman's Hell in the Pacilic and Robinson Crusoe on Mars, Enemy Mine is marred by extensive editing and an uncertainty as to whether to opt tor a StarWars-style lantasy or a more human (and more interesting) intimate story. Likeable nonetheless and you can certainly see how they spent the astronomical budget. (Allan Hunter).
97 mins. A pathologically punctilious headmaster is chronically late for an important conference. Basically a one-joke farce this is an enervated vehicle for Cleese‘s incisive comic timing— the film‘s raison d'etrc and saving grace. Edinburgh: Dominion
