A number oftake away restaurants in Edinburgh offer the added temptation ofa free delivery service. For twice the laziness - or half the effort - you can have your take away brought to you and sit in with your carry out. Pizzas are most commonly offered in this service. readily accommodating themselves into hinged polysterene shells. which vans frisbee about all over the city. Darios (229 9625. Mon-Sat noon-8pm) also stretch to spagetti. pasta and stuffed peppers. No minimum charge (but deliveries are charged at ‘eat in‘ prices). Pizzas £2.b()-£-1.5(l; pasta £2.95-£3.25.

The Chinese meal from Hunger Busters (225 1052 Sun-Thurs 5.30-1 1.30pm. Fri & Sat ' 5.3(lpm- l .3Uam) took almost twice its estimated time (40 mins) to arrive. by which time there was more hunger to be busted than there had been. It is worth bearing in mind with all these deliveries that the

impulse ofordering a take away cannot quite be matched by speed of delivery and there is a built in delay factor which could easily be equal to another slice of pizza or portion of pudding (gateaux (30p: cheesecake (35p). They offer a wide choice of menu: salads -

A merican/potatolprawn or tuna (£2-£2.95). pizzas (average £2.95). pasta. vegetarian meals (no minimum charge) plus Chinese or Indian (£5 minimum order for these). Hard to resist when it's late. raining and you have no food in the house.

Mamma’s (2256-164) in the (irassmarket will deliver free (within 2121/: mile radius) an American—style pizza. noon to midnight. Mon to Sat (and Sundays during the summer). Prices from £2.40 to £9.75 for a lb-incher (for 4-6 people). £5 minimum order. Good wide choice. but a spicy factor in the tomato base seems to be common to most of them.

simply mean that we want to bus companies out to housing schemes. for that is often not the right way of approaching the question. It is basically to ensure that the arts organisations make efforts to go beyond a small section of the community.

Doesn't the Fringe do that? This is what puzzles me. Why should one wish the official Festival to go Pop considering that it is by tar the smallest part of all the activities going on in Edinburgh in those three weeks? I agree with you strongly on the time factor. But why target the Festival Society? Aren’t you really saying that more help should be given to the Fringe, to attract people into them, orto get them out; certainly tor some of them to stay longer or come

back in the long winter? [‘0 some extent I would make the same criticism of the Fringe as I‘ve

made ofthe Festival. But whetheror

not that’s the case. the fact is that the

support whereas the Festival. well it

that if that is the body to which we are giving something like 25 per cent ofour total Arts budget. then we must consider overall priorities . . . It is all about accessibility. not merely geographical. but what is accessible to different kinds ofpeople. and of pricing policy too: and of whether people are made to feel welcome.
