Now unquestionablythe biggest-selling band in Australia, INXS (pronounced ‘ln Excess’) are on tourto try and repeat their success over here. Formed in 1977 as The Farriss Brothers (Tim, Andrew and John play guitar, keyboards and drums respectively) the Sydney-based group spent most of theirtlme playing local hotels and mining towns around their home and Perth. A name change to INXS started their rise to prominence, and 1981 , when they released their second album, saw them doing a 3oo-date tour of the Antipodes. Still, it wasn’t until two years later when they supported Adam Ant and The Kinks on their Stateside tours, that their lirst single, ‘Don’t Change’, was released in

Britain. It didn’t do much, and neither have their releases since then, but alter their spot on the Australian Live Aid segment, showing on the comely singer Michael Hutchence to the world, and subsquent appearances in front or the Prince and Princess oi Wales and later on The Tube, they look like the sort of band that The Sun might choose to take to its heart and propel to stardom. Who knows? U2 have been keeping pretty quiet of late, and there doesn’t seem to be enough of Simple Minds to go around, so INXS's big colourful sweeps could be the next stadium fodder over here. Any
