The current upsurge of national (and international) critical interest in Scottish painting has not been won by the new ‘Glasgow Boys' alone, whose success is measured in part by their youth. Lys Hansen, one at the only women to break into this particular limelight, studied at Edinburgh College 01 Art in the sixties and has several years of experience under her belt. Exhibiting with the 369 Gallery since

its inception, Hansen returns to its new location with an exhibition of recent worlt, the result oi her stay in West Berlin last year. Woman and man are her subjects. Figures, ottentoo large tor the canvas, bend to tit uncomlortably. Limbs contort and proportions distort. Woman's dignity is pushed to the limit and sexuality is up iront. Turning Points in Scottish Architecture -An Exhibition irom the EMS Collection Until Sat 19 Apr. An informative exhibition based on the collection ofdrawings. plans and artefacts ofthe Royal Incorporation of Architects. Three points of change and approach to architecture slice the display into four sections. Playfair’s elegant drawings, the Scottish vernacular styles ofthe late 19th century, the flat-roofed white houses and entertainment palaces of the thirties, all lead towards the architecture of today. The direction ofthe profession in the eighties is, as yet, under exploration.
