Despite having won the dire Celtivision Song Contest in Killarney, the word is that Capercaillie are the best group to have emerged on the Scottish tollt
scene ior ages. The last crop winged on
thelrway ten to fifteen years ago and little had been seen at a younger generation. The tact that they are from north at the Highland Fault line is unusual and Karen Matheson’s Gaelic singing is superb. The other live are also singers and between them they play iiddle, accordion. synthesiser, bass, whistles, recorder, bouzouki. guitar and bodhran.
Their tirst album, Cascade, with a slightly dltterent line-up, had some
beautiiul arrangements, and havin turned proiessional, they are going to iollow a tour oi Canada by trips to Europe and a new album. Glasgow’s MacLellan Galleries has them on 7th and Edinburgh's George Square Theatre on 8th.
The George Square Theatre is also the venue on 21 st tor a one-off concert by the legendary acoustic group Pentangle, including Bert Jansch and Jacqui MacShee. Swing ’86, The Qjango Hhelnhardt style small ian band ieaturing two acoustic guitars, will also be appearing. (Human Chalmers).
