It’s torture as Puccini’s Tosca reaches Portobello with a performance by Scottish Opera Go Round at the Town Hall on Tues 3 Dec. Not for the audience though, but for Cavardossi (John Oakman) on stage, in prison, in
Scotlahd, which for one reason or another (perhaps lack of facilities or lack of population) don’t get a visit from the main company.
With a small cast, meaning many singers have to take more than one role, and piano accompaniment rather than an orchestra, it's cheap to run, so visits to places as far apart as Kirkwall and Stranraer, with numerous others squeezed inbetween, are possible
Scottish Opera Go Round has been going round since 1978 with many different productions putting into practice the enlightened idea of taking opera to as many people as possible in within one tour, including, of course, towns and villages throughout dear Old Porty. (Carol Main).
Robert Cohen is the solist in Haydn‘s ‘Cello Concerto in D major and there‘s an all too seldom opportunity of hearing Kodaly‘s marvellous Dances ofGalanta. The Overture to Idomeneo by Mozart opens the concert.

This young duo is now well established on the international concert circuit, with countless broadcasts and a record of Brahms' Sonatas to their credit. His Sonata in f Op 99 is on this programme. along with Isserlis’s own transcription of Beethoven’s Variations for Mandolin and music by Hans Gal, Beethoven and Webern.
