THEATRE HITLIST

Gareth K Vile picks out theatre highlights from week three of the festival

UNDERGROUND RAILROAD GAME Rough and tough, funny and bold look at racism, educational theatre and the complicity of the audience. Taking in bad art, rousing song and a wry exposure of how cliches become common, past sins become modern sickness. See review. page 90. Traverse, until 26 Aug (not 20), times vary, £20.50 (£15.50).

THE CHORE OF ENCHANTMENT A magic show that asks questions about magic: the final show from an artist becomes a dream within a play within an illusion. See review, list.co.uk/festival Underbelly Bristo Square, until 27 Aug (not 20), 5.45pm, £9.50–£10.50 (£8.50–£9.50).

URBAN DEATH With horror theatre in vogue at the moment, Zombie Joe takes the grand guignol tradition and adds an unpleasant contemporary edge. Not just about the jump scares, it moves

into viciously relevant monstrosities. See review, page 85. Sweet Grassmarket, until 26 Aug, 9.30pm, £8.50 (£6.50).

MY LEFT/RIGHT FOOT Robert Softley Gale unsurprisingly, given his track record writes a provocative musical that skewers hypocrisy and self-interest in the representation of disability: entertaining, funny, but refusing simple answers or self-satisfaction. This Birds of Paradise co-production with NTS is a powerful call for inclusivity with meaning. See review, page 83. Assembly Roxy, until 27 Aug (not 21), 6.10pm, £16 (£12).

VESSEL A sensitive and subtle take on the debate for reproductive rights, using the recent Irish referendum on abortion as a springboard for a nuanced discussion of activism and compassion. See review, page 82. Underbelly Bristo Square, until 27 Aug, 1.05pm, £10 (£9).

SIX Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn,

Vessel

Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard and Catherine Parr are brought back to life in this thrilling new musical that offers a bold retelling of history. See review, page 91. Underbelly George Square, until 27 Aug, 7.30pm (except 27, 3.30pm), £13–£18.50 (£12–£17.50).
