MUSEUM AFTER HOURS: FRIDAY FRINGE TAKEOVERS
A night at the museum that’s just for adults. Enjoy performances from a variety of Fringe shows on the Grand Gallery’s main stage, visit pop-up bars and check out the museum’s collections, including the Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobites exhibition. ART LATE FEATURING HAPPY MEALS This edition of Art Late visits Collective, Edinburgh Printmakers and Rhubaba Gallery and Studios. The evening i nishes up at Custom Lane, with an artist performance from Pauline and the Matches, and music from Glasgow synth-pop duo Happy Meals. Collective, 17 Aug, 6.30pm, £9 (£8).
ART LATE FEATURING HAMISH HAWK Choose one of three routes for the i nal Art Late, with featured works including Bobby Niven’s Palm House at the Johnston Terrace Wildlife Garden and Kate Davis’ exhibition at Stills. COSEY FANNI TUTTI WITH IAN RANKIN Performance artist, musician and punk pioneer Cosey Fanni Tutti’s career includes her controversial 1976 performance art exhibition Prostitution and founding avant- garde group Throbbing Gristle. She discusses her concisely-named autobiography, Art Sex Music, with crime writer and music lover Ian Rankin. Charlotte Square Gardens, 27 Aug, 8.45pm, £12 (£10).
ART LATE FEATURING BOOHOOHOO Explore the Edinburgh Art Festival by night
T ime is precious in August, so Art Late offers you a chance to experience the Edinburgh Art Festival programme in the evenings, with a four-part series of gallery visits and exhibition tours, paired with live music and drinks.
The second edition of Art Late (10 Aug) starts at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art (Modern One), and visits the exhibitions ARTIST ROOMS: Ed Ruscha and NOW. The former explores the artist’s fascination with West Coast American culture, while NOW features work by inl uential artists working today, including Turner Prize-shortlisted Nathan Coley, whose ‘The Lamp of Sacrii ce, 286 Places of Worship, Edinburgh 2004’, will be on display for the i rst time since its restoration. This iconic installation comprises 286 scaled-down cardboard replicas of every building listed as a place of worship in the 2004 Yellow Pages for Edinburgh. After visiting the gallery, it’s all aboard a coach to outdoor sculpture park Jupiter Artland, where new work includes ‘Marco Giordano: Self-Fuli lling-Ego’, an avenue of sculptures that emit a mist of water, and ‘Pablo Bronstein: The Rose Walk’, a 25-metre-long rose garden joining two pavilions. The evening concludes with 80s-fuelled electro-pop from Glasgow band BooHooHoo, fresh from their performances at ButeFest and Belladrum.
