The Citizens Theatre and Edinburgh International Festival’s new stage adaptation of Alasdair Gray’s Lanark is one of the hottest tickets this August. Part Kafkaesque reimagining of Glasgow, part autobiography, the fantastical Lanark and its questions about the role of artists, leaders and workers in modern day Scotland have inspired generations of writer, artists and musicians since the novel was published in 1981.
Lanark has been adapted by David Greig (Glasgow Girls, Dunsinane, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) and directed by Graham Eatough, who previously worked together as Suspect Culture, one of the UK’s most experimental theatre companies.
