Providing fresh perspectives on visual art, Festival Detours is brought to you by the Edinburgh Art Festival and The List and is a series of intimate live performances taking place in August in Edinburgh’s leading galleries by stars from the worlds of music, poetry and theatre.
We have two pairs of tickets to give away to each of the Festival Detours: Billy Letford 12 August 2013 Festival Detours: Billy Letford at City Art Centre 6–6.40pm £4 Winner of the New Writers Award from the Scottish Book Trust, the poet Billy Letford has received rave reviews for his work which combines experimental structure with cadences and accents of ordinary speech to produce “moments of transcendental insight” (The Guardian). Here, the poet brings his unique voice to the exhibition Coming into Fashion, a Century of Photography at Conde Nast.
GOL 16 August 2013 Festival Detours: GOL at Talbot Rice Gallery 6–6.40pm £4 The band GOL uniquely fuse traditional Persian arrangements with contemporary electronica, jazz and world music. For the Art Festival, GOL will give a one-off performance within the Nam June Paik Resounds exhibition at Talbot Rice Gallery.
Roddy Woomble 20 August 2013 Festival Detours: Roddy Woomble at Dovecot Studios 6–6.40pm £4 Lead singer with Idlewild, Woomble is highly acclaimed for his solo releases of contemporary folk, and will perform an acoustic set in response to the exhibition From Fleece to Fibre at Dovecot Studios. Louise Ahl (Ultimate Dancer) 24 August 2013 Festival Detours: Louise Ahl (Ultimate Dancer) at Inverleith House 6–6.40pm £4 Louise Ahl is an exciting contemporary choreographer and performer, whose alter-ego Ultimate Dancer will create a one-off performance at Inverleith House, interacting with the exhibition Mostly West: Franz West and Artist Collaborations.

Smashed is an hour of pure delight; kilos of apples as balls in a show of virtuosic juggling. Funny and ingenious, this is the dance theatre ‘feel good’ show of the festival.
Touring the world since 2011, London based company Gandini Juggling brings its critically acclaimed hit to Assembly Hall this August and we have a pair of tickets to give away for Monday 19 August. A sensational mix of skill and theatricality inspired by the work of Pina Bausch, Smashed evokes nostalgia for a world of black and white photographs, post war romance, tense relationships and quaint afternoon tea.

WIN DINNER AND TICKETS AT BAR SOBA
Edinburgh’s award-winning cocktail bar and pan-Asian restaurant Bar Soba is set to host an exclusive and unrivaled line up of some of the UK’s top DJs every Thursday throughout the Festival with free entry all night till 3am.
The sets, which range from house and hip hop to garage and disco, kick off on 1 Aug with an appearance from the unmistakable talent that is X-Press 2 founding member Ashley Beedle, before welcoming Hot Chip on 8 Aug, then a rare appearance from true artist Daddy G of the hugely influential band Massive Attack on 15 Aug, followed by garage legend Artful on 22 Aug and a ska revival with The Specials’ Jerry Dammers on 29 Aug, ensuring all bases are covered.
