‘ We love they way they talk, the way they move, the things they are doing to make poetry reinvent itself. But above all, we love their names. Here are five performance poets whom many would kill to claim their title.
Patience Agbabi Appearing at the Festival with Jean ‘Binta' Breeze. Francesca Beard and Roger Robinson. Patience has been at the forefront of the British movement since her debut collection RAW. in 1995.
Hedwig Gorski This Noo Jersey avant gardist is credited with ceining the term performance poetry' in the 19808 though she might easrly have given up when her hero Allen Ginsberg ieered one of her early readings.
Kamikaze Bard Little Davy King This fiercely political satirist dubbed himself as ‘a purveyOr of \"ldG‘OSyl‘Cfath vaudeVille verse' and has written Songs of Frustration and Lust.
Tug Dumbly His CV reads 'rock star. crooner. comic. poet and buttoon’ and his greatest ambition is to write the Great Australian Novel. Before that. he wants to pen the Great Australian Play. the Great Australian Poem and the Great Australian Fart Joke. Tug, we Suspect. is Australian.
