DR LEDBETTER’S EXPERIMENT
Wired for sound
There were those in Kilkenny who, after seeing the Performance Corporation‘s site-specific show, spoke knowledgeably about Dr Ledbetter and his place in Irish history. They should have known better. and Hare history of gothic goings on, seemed perfect.‘
Raved about in Ireland for its subversive inventiveness, Dr Ledbetter’s Experiment requires the audience to prowl round the medical faculty while listening to the play on headphones. Unlike the Fringe’s two other audio shows - David Leddy’s Reekie and Ghost by Puppet Lab — this one is performed live by actors with hidden microphones. Their voices are mixed with sound effects and original music.
‘lt's like a play in your head,‘ says Swift. ‘It allows us to have actors 300 yards away spring into the audience. Even though it was written for spaces in Kilkenny, the venues we have here are better. We trap people in our own little soundscape and grab them by the ears.’ (Mark Fisher)
