Hard work that'll leave you feeling fantastic. Weather is not an issue.

It's a good time to get out and exercise outside. Even if it rains it's great that it's not pitch black at 4pm. I also love the atmosphere that the Festival creates.

Apparently it’s summer.

Get outside before the icy hand of winter sweeps the land.

:2: Running Start at St Margaret's Loch in Holyrood Park and make your way up the hill to Dunsapie Loch. It's not too steep but it’s good for a warm-up. Once there, follow the path round, feel free to admire the swans but don‘t get too close as they can break your arm, apparently. Turn the corner and enjoy the most beautiful jogging view in Edinburgh, the whole city

and the Pentland Hills before you.

Inspiring stuff. Pop over the top of the hill and enjoy a blissful run down to Holyrood or take the Radical Road round Salisbury Crags if you’re feeling frisky.

:1: Resistance training And you thought benches were just for sitting on or flinging at the police. Shame on you. Tone your arms by doing tricep dips— place your hands on the bench, shoulder width apart, legs straight out behind you, plank- Iike. Lower yourself down, keeping your elbows in and your back straight. Doing press ups on a bench makes it a bit easier. Place your hands slightly wider than shoulder width apart, ensuring they are at chest level. With straight back and legs, gently lower yourself down and back up. Do two sets of 12 for each technique. There are many fine benches in Holyrood Park if you want to combine cardio and resistance work.

:1: Cycling John F Kennedy once said ‘Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of a bike ride'. that‘s certainly true of the route that follows the Water of Leith from Newhaven all the way to Balerno. It's 12 miles of seeing the city, including the spectacular Dean Bridge, from a whole new angle. For the full route, join at Balerno High School or Hawthornvale in Newhaven, but the section from Stockbridge to Balerno is bonniest. www. spokesorguk,
