John Rae's Jazz Festival outing with a sextet comprising three Scots and three American musicians under the Afro-Celt Jazz Ensemble banner may have been a tongue-in-cheek nod to Gaelic music's influence across the Atlantic. complete wrth his mock Gaelic translations of tune titles. but Rae’s commitment to bringing together jaz7 and Scottish music has been long-standing and genuine.
His Celtic Feet band has been the most successful manifestation of it. and they settle in for a three-night residency which will add the potent strains of Hungarian music to the mix.
The Magic Feet band first got together on a Tune Up t0ur last year. and feature Mrshi and Hobi Farkas alongside Rae on drums. Erlidh Shaw on fiddle. Martin Green on accordion. Brian Kellock on piano. Mario Caribe on bass and Neil Gerstenberg.

EMILIANA TORRINI Italian-Icelandic whispering folky songwriting genius Emiliana Torrinr is half ltalran. half Icelandic. and her music somehow reflects that. combining a sultry Mediterranean passion with an idiosyncratic. icy \.'-.«'errdness that only lcelanders seem to possess.
