presence on the Edinburgh and Scottish jazz scenes for well over a decade. but Colin is now set to make what many see as a long overdue impact beyond these areas.
The success of his debut
leader, Twilight Dreams, has eyes and ears to both his compelling trumpet playing and his mature vision as a composer. Add to that an excellent quintet which is allowing him to develop his ideas in a stable creative context. and you have the ingredients for serious achievement. Colin has no intention of waiting another decade for his next album. ln‘fact, his recent sets at the Glasgow and Edinburgh jazz festivals have included new material destined for the follow- up, and more of that will feature in this run at Henry's. ‘My plan is to tour in November. . then record it. BERLINER Who are Jonny Berliner and why should a dubious rhetorical device like myself be at all interested? A tasty trio whose mission was to conquer L86. What’s L86 and why are you talking funny? L86 is a part of Leeds. Jonny Berliner are from Leeds. .Jonny plays guitar and sings. Joe Allen hits the skins and Robin plays electric bass and scissors.
A cut above the rest are they? Well, the Yorkshire Evening Post gave them four stars. Their self-titled sampler sounds a little bit jazzy and a little hit folky and a little nit put) rock. Sounds kinda exciting, but I’m busy tonight watching some avant-garde performance art in a four-dimensional shed in Pilton.
