Circle Of Friends: Leslie And Sadie Martin And British Modernism From The 19303 L'ntil Sun 28 Oct. The Martins co-edited the setninal publication Circle.“ International Survey Of Constructive Art. which led to lifelong friendships with leading artists. This small display features works by Gabo. Hepworth and Wallis. drawn from their collection. along with works from the permanent collection.

The first ever examination of Rembrandt's portrayal of women in his art. featuring major paintings. drawings and etchings drawn from all over Europe and America. Rembrandt was the greatest artist of the Dutch school. his paintings characterised by luxuriant brushwork and rich colour. and a master of chiaroscuro. Housed at Edinburgh‘s National Portrait Gallery. curated by Julia Lloyd Williams. the exhibition will travel to London's Royal Academy of Arts. Among the paintings included in the exhibition. the Getty Museum is lending the first drawing ever purchased Nut/e Ii'nman ll't't/i A Snake and The Portrait ()fA ll'oman Aged 62 sold late last year for a record £l9.8 tnillion has also been offered to the exhibition. Included in the display are rarely-seen icons of the Jacobite cause. a life—size reconstruction of Canova’s magnificent tomb to the exiled Stewarts and an important new acquisition A View ()fT/ze Palazzo Mutt. the 18th century painting of the Prince‘s Jacobite Palace in Rome attributed to Guiseppe \'aleriani.

Return To Life: A New Look at The Portrait Bust L'ntil Sun 14 Oct. This exhibition challenges the contemporary viewer to look again at portrait busts and engage in a face-to-face dialogue with a remarkably skilful and inventive art. The work of well-known sculptors Sir Jacob Epstein. Henri Gaudier-Brzeska and Sir Francis Chantrey are featured in the show as well as less familiar practitioners including Samuel Joseph and Kathleen Scott. Myths And Realities: The Jacobite Relicks Wed 22 Aug. 12.45pm. George Dalgleish from the National Museum of Scotland gives a talk.

East Lothian's Stenton Gallery presents an exhibition focusing on Japanese calligraphy (Sho) by Shingai Tanaka with works by Campbell Sandilands including woodblock printing and ceramics. Sandilands studied under Tanaka in Japan for four years. learning about the ancient tradition of calligraphy. The result is a subtle fusion of both traditional and contemporary techniques.
