Back in another Edinburgh ecclesiastical building after last year‘s acclaimed Hogmanay Cathedral gig. the songwriting saint now divides his time between England and the USA — a cult hero in both. The trademark black t-shirt and beret helps. but perhaps it is just that the quality of his writing and highly individual. virtuoso guitar playing will never translate to the mainstream. From his early days re- inventing English folk/rock in Fairport Convention to his current Stateside recording projects with the likes of John Fogarty. Emrnylou Harris and the McGarrigles.
