Four decks’ worth of the best funky, breaksy beats as Headspin residents Colin Miller, Dava and Trendy Wendy are joined by guests DANMASS, aka Mr Dan and Massimo. Both have a string of releases on Dust2Dust to their credit, and they can also boast a collaboration with Afrika Bambaataa on the ‘Electro Funk Express’ single. And if that isn’t enough to keep you on your toes all night, the funky nonsense will continue in the back room and the Headspin house band will be making surprise live forays.

I Return To The Source at Teviot Row Union. 9pm—5am. £10 (£8 advance from The Fringe box office). 12 Aug only. The legendary Goa trancers make their way up to Edinburgh for a Festival date, brought to you in collaboration with local lads Sublime. Expect full-on techno- trance tunes from London regulars Phil Ross, Baraka and Marc Allen. And, because the guys believe in the spiritual power of dance, they spare no effort in creating a pleasant environment for your cavorting so Zag will be supplying the ‘Uforic Floral Visions’. (See preview). If it’s a reggae, ragga, hip hop and jungle vibe you’re after, then search out local lads Kid, Archie, Extra and The Mad Ambassador.
I Rio at Ego (formerly Eden). 10.30pm—5am. £7 (£5 in fancy dress). 12 Aug. Monthly. Another dose of camival- style cavorting as the Rio posse serve up an intoxicating cocktail of Latin rhythms taking in salsa, rhumba, disco and funk. Making the case for fun in the sun are Senor Love Daddy, Milton Bananas, Tony D’Amore and Sam Miguel, alongside hostesses with the mostess the lpanema Girls.
I Saturday Night Live at The Venue. 11pm—5am. £9 (£7). 12 Aug. Monthly. Another three-floor funk and hip hop fest as Motherfunk and Scratch get together for their monthly knees-up. Tiger Style and DJ Skully are the guests, and anyone who’s seen the flyer can attest to the huge range of mixing titles they’ve amassed between them, joining Lyley, Rufftone and Extra on the main floor. Gino and Fryer man the funk fort on the top floor, with DJ Frosty supplying an across-the- board mix in The Cooler. Enjoy.

I Spectrum at Club Java. 10pm-3am. £5 (£4). Weekly. Leith’s little haven of best beats is doing so well that it will be going weekly from now on. Not only do you get to enjoy a stylish bar and dancefloor, but the upstairs section can cater for every lounger’s needs, with copious quantities of couching and some cosy little booths. And there’s music too of course. The new regime sees London’s Daryl G., of Lizzard Lounge fame, guesting on 12 Aug, with Unkle Fawaz and friends on 19 Aug. The music policy covers a range of quality tunes, from hip hop and drum & bass to reggae R&B and mellow house.
