Five things to do in Edinburgh
Eva Meier
1 Eat Fish Edinburgh has some of the finest fish restaurants in the
world. I especially love eating at the Waterfront in Leith. They have a
fantastic bottle of wine on their list called La Diva.
2 Laugh Who said Germans didn't have a sense of humour? This
year I may catch the Nualas as my piano player Connor Linehan used
to pay with them. Will also be going to see Jeff Green.
3 Shop I love to shop — more of a browser than purchaser — but
hell, a girl can always be tempted, so watch out Ienners, here I come. After my run, I’m off to a remote cottage on the West Coast, so I may just have to buy some cashmere. 4 Theatre Will certainly be trying to get tickets for the Abbey Theatre, Dublin production of Barbaric Comedies at the King's. It is one of the finest theatre companies in the world. 5 Walk 1 do love to walk and Edinburgh during the Festival is a great place to do just that. The atmosphere on the High Street is unique and, if I am in need of clean fresh air, I may attempt Arthur’s Seat — well maybe not all the way . . . What a smashing theatre the Traverse is, eh? Only a couple of years after the company staged David Harrower’s Kill The Old, Torture Their Young, featuring a character rabbiting on about how Scotland’s shifting fortunes were symbolised by the arrival of The List, it’s using this hallowed organ as one of its stage props. Elaine C. Smith stars in Kate Atkinson's debut
play Abandonment and is pictured above flicking through a copy — £1.95 from all good newsagents — in search of a film to see (which, strangely, she seems to find in the art section, but we’ll let it pass). Advance word on the play is that it’s a hit. Showing such good taste in magazines, how could it be otherwise?
